Fastener failure
The fasteners will not hold the sides to the top, bottom and center shelf so the tall heavy bookcase will not stay square. I tried putting on the cardboard back but of course it did not hold the bookcase square. I’ve taken it apart as it will never get better. The second one is still in the box.

Not just for books
Initially I got this for book storage but some of my books are too long or large in general. I discovered a better use for the Billy bookcase. I am in the process of setting up a crafting room in the house instead of an outdoor storage room. These bookcases will work great for helping me store frequently used items within easy reach. I found the assembly very easy to figure out and paid attention to the instructions. I found a second bookcase in the same wood tone in the AS IS section of the nearby store. It was already assembled! I am very pleased with both bookcases. I saw a dark brown/black bookcase weeks ago and it was beautiful. These are NOT heavy duty so keep that in mind. Otherwise for a small home office or craft room these are affordable nice looking product.
